Catholic Charities mobilizes aid for Hurricane Helene relief and recovery
In late September, Hurricane Helene, a category 4 storm, caused widespread devastation across the Southeast, affecting states such as Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The hurricane resulted in the destruction of homes, highways, and essential infrastructure like power, water, and cell tower systems, with at least 230 fatalities, particularly impacting Western North Carolina.
In response, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh, worked alongside the North Carolina Knights of Columbus State Council and Catholic Charities USA to conduct rapid relief efforts. They focused on collecting and distributing critical supplies and organizing volunteer support for the affected communities.
